Overview
Ramiven 100mg is a tablet that contains abemaciclib 100mg. It is made by Eli Lilly and Company India and is a generic version of Verzenio. Abemaciclib is a kinase inhibitor (a CDK4/6 inhibitor) used to treat hormone receptor (HR)-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer in adults, usually together with hormone (endocrine) therapy.
- Abemaciclib 100mg per tablet
- Generic version of Verzenio
- For HR-positive, HER2-negative breast cancer
- Taken twice a day, with or without food
Uses
According to the official label, abemaciclib is used in adults:
- with tamoxifen or an aromatase inhibitor after surgery for HR-positive, HER2-negative, node-positive early breast cancer with a high risk of coming back
- with an aromatase inhibitor as the first hormone-based treatment for HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer
- with fulvestrant for HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has grown after hormone therapy
- with imlunestrant for ER-positive, HER2-negative, ESR1-mutated advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has grown after at least one hormone therapy (an approved test confirms the ESR1 mutation)
- on its own for HR-positive, HER2-negative advanced or metastatic breast cancer that has grown after hormone therapy and earlier chemotherapy

How it works
Abemaciclib blocks two enzymes called cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4 and CDK6). In hormone receptor-positive breast cancer, these enzymes help cancer cells divide and grow. Blocking them stops the cells from moving on through their growth cycle, which slows or stops the growth of the cancer.
Dosage
Take Ramiven exactly as your cancer doctor prescribes. The doses on the official label are:
- With hormone therapy (fulvestrant, tamoxifen, imlunestrant or an aromatase inhibitor): 150mg twice a day.
- On its own: 200mg twice a day.
- Lower doses: if side effects happen, the doctor lowers the dose in steps of 50mg, for example to 100mg twice a day. The 100mg dose is also used when you must take certain other medicines (strong CYP3A inhibitors).
- For early breast cancer, treatment continues for 2 years unless the cancer comes back or side effects are too strong. For advanced cancer, it continues for as long as it works and is tolerated.
- Take it with or without food, at about the same times every day. Swallow the tablets whole — do not chew, crush or split them.
- Missed dose or vomiting: do not take an extra dose. Take the next dose at the usual time.
- People with severe liver problems take it once a day instead of twice.
Safety warning
Abemaciclib can cause serious side effects. Tell your doctor right away if you get any of these:
- Diarrhea — very common and sometimes severe, which can cause dehydration. At the first loose stool, start an antidiarrheal medicine (such as loperamide), drink more fluids and call your doctor.
- Low white blood cell counts (neutropenia) — can lead to serious infections. Report any fever, chills or signs of infection. Your blood counts are checked before and during treatment.
- Lung problems (interstitial lung disease or pneumonitis) — severe or life-threatening. Report new or worse trouble breathing, cough or chest pain.
- Liver problems — your liver is checked with blood tests. Report severe tiredness, pain in the upper right stomach, loss of appetite, or bleeding or bruising easily.
- Blood clots in the veins or lungs, which have led to death. Report pain or swelling in the arms or legs, shortness of breath, chest pain, fast breathing or a fast heart rate.
Pregnancy: abemaciclib can harm an unborn baby. Women who can become pregnant should use effective birth control during treatment and for 3 weeks after the last dose.
Your doctor may lower your dose, pause or stop treatment if serious side effects happen.
Side effects
The most common side effects in clinical trials (in 20% of patients or more) were:
- Diarrhea
- Infections
- Low white blood cell counts
- Tiredness
- Stomach (abdominal) pain
- Nausea
- Low red blood cell counts (anemia)
- Vomiting
Abemaciclib can also raise the blood level of creatinine without harming the kidneys, so doctors may use other tests to check kidney function. It may cause fertility problems in men.
Interactions
- Ketoconazole: do not take it with abemaciclib.
- Other strong or moderate CYP3A inhibitors (some antifungal and antibiotic medicines, such as clarithromycin): they raise abemaciclib levels, so the dose may need to be lowered.
- Strong or moderate CYP3A inducers (such as rifampin): they lower abemaciclib levels and should be avoided.
- Grapefruit: avoid grapefruit and grapefruit products.
Tell your doctor about all the medicines, vitamins and herbal supplements you take.
Pregnancy & breastfeeding
Abemaciclib can harm an unborn baby. Your doctor will do a pregnancy test before you start. Use effective birth control during treatment and for 3 weeks after the last dose, and tell your doctor right away if you become pregnant. Do not breastfeed during treatment and for at least 3 weeks after the last dose. If you take it with another medicine, your doctor will tell you how long these steps apply.

FAQs
Is Ramiven 100mg the same as Verzenio?
Both contain abemaciclib as the active ingredient. Ramiven is made by Eli Lilly and Company India; Verzenio is the brand name used by Eli Lilly and Company in the US.
Who is the 100mg tablet for?
The usual starting dose is 150mg twice a day (with hormone therapy) or 200mg twice a day (on its own). The 100mg tablet is used when your doctor lowers the dose, for example because of side effects or because you take certain other medicines.
How do I take Ramiven 100mg?
Swallow the tablet whole, with or without food, at about the same times every day. Do not chew, crush or split it, and do not take a tablet that is broken or cracked.
What if I miss a dose or vomit after a dose?
Skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. If you vomit after a dose, do not take an extra dose.
What is the most common side effect?
Diarrhea. Most people get it in the first month. At the first loose stool, start an antidiarrheal medicine such as loperamide, drink more fluids and tell your doctor.
Can I eat grapefruit while taking it?
No. Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit products, because grapefruit may increase the amount of abemaciclib in your blood.
